Team Basefit conquer Toughest London!

On Saturday 23rd April, Basefit had a team starting in the 8km – 40 obstacles Scandinavian OCR (Obstacle Course Race) Toughest, and it was amazing! I had three fantastic boys with me, Luke, Jamie and Fernando, and together we got around the challenging hilly and muddy course and we had so much fun.

The obstacles were insane and sometimes a mixture of challenges making three different types of obstacles into a big one, such as starting off with rings, moving on to ropes and finishing with bars. We did a lot of crawling in the mud, we walked straight through a deep river with freezing water, sliding up and down of mud pits, conquering the monkey bars and climbed over endless walls. And on top of all that, the course was very hilly and I lost track of how many times we climbed those hills.

The length of the race was perfect as well as the number of obstacles which made it very enjoyable throughout. Unique for this race was that there were fast lanes with more technical obstacles which if you were successful, you could skip a second part of an obstacle (such as crawling), but if you failed you would have to do a penalty round and do the second part. These obstacles included salmon ladder, flying monkey and spinning wheels (as seen on Ninja Warrior) and it made me excited to learn how to beat those obstacles. Maybe next time?

Apparently during the early morning one of the runners got scared during the giant slide and ripped it so it was out of use when we got there. Everyone was looking forward to this hyped obstacle, but it’s better to be safe than injured. This unfortunate detail stopped this race from being perfect, but it was still amazing.

I want to take the opportunity to thank my team mates Luke, Jamie and Fernando for all the support during the course, for lending me your knees and your hands to help me over those giant walls and for being awesome all the time. I also want to thank the Basefit owner Andy for taking fantastic photos during the race and for supporting us before and during the race. Another thank you to Dejan and Danny, for getting us race ready with the muddy race sessions.

I might be bruised and battered, but I really want to sign up for another challenge as no matter how hard it is, how cold it was and how steep those muddy hill paths were, it was a great fun experience!
